Potentate of Zenobia Shrine - Perrysburg, Ohio in 2002

Eulogy from Hadji Shriners: Freemasonry and those of us in Northwest Ohio lost a Brother and Shriner. Walter C. Metcalfe moved peacefully on to the celestial lodge in the sky and is now greatly missed by all who knew him.

Brother Metcalfe was raised a Master Mason on May 25, 1968 in Livonia Lodge #586, Plymouth, MI. He later demitted to Findlay Lodge #227, Findlay, OH. He is a member of both York and Scottish Rites and became a Shriner at Zenobia in fall of 1981. He quickly affiliated with the Highlander unit and served in all the elected and appointed offices. Illustrious Sir Metcalfe served Zenobia as potentate in 2002.

Noble Walter is best recognized for his pipe playing, served as unit Pipe Major, instructed many individuals in playing and served as Duty Piper with Legion of Honor. Ill. Sir could be found playing at various events from piping in dignitaries, to solemn events as funerals, or even at scouting events. He was quite proud to play at the Tomb of the Unknown. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of the Legion of Honor, and active in the Great Lakes Shrine Association, especially the Pipe Band.

Illustrious Sir Walter and Lady Phyllis resided just outside of Findlay. He was an engineer and operated the RPM Carbide Die, Inc. in Arcadia. They retired in 1994 and sold the business to their sons. They were able to enjoy their family, travel and antiques, along with many activities at Zenobia.

We express our sympathy to his lady, Phyllis, and his family. Ill. Sir Metcalfe will be remembered as a Brother Mason and a memorable person in the Zenobia Shrine.

Well done… good and faithful Servant, enter now into the joy of your Lord.
